Where does your dog live?

My dogs live in my house. Yes, I used the plural of dog because there is more than one. Yes, I vacuum a lot! My dogs live in my house because I know that they enjoy my company and I enjoy theirs. I am reasonable about this living arrangement – the dogs are not able to stay in my house for 8 or 10 hours if I have to be away. If I must be gone for a long time period they are in a safe yard – big, securely fenced and safe. I live on 35 acres. I do not let my dogs have the entire 35 acres for their yard because it is unnecessary.

Heat Warning!

It's no surprise that our summer is already blazing.  What is surprising is how many dogs are already in seriously compromised health because of it.

Even "outside" dogs cannot handle 100 plus temperatures. Particularly when we went from 90 (relatively hot) to 100 over night.

One of our favorite guests perished this week from heat stroke while with his owner.  The owner did not realize or understand how dangerous heat can be for dogs.

Dogs cool themselves through panting and by sweat glands on the bottom of their feet and on their noses. Because dogs can't tell us when they are hot, we must be able to recognize the signs.

Traveling With Your Dog

Whether it’s a quick trip to your in-laws for the weekend, or a 7-day vacation, traveling with your dog can be fun – if you pre-plan. First, be aware that just because “Freddy” is the light of your life in the 4-legged department, many of your family and friends don’t share your delight! It helps if “Freddy” is a well-behaved dog that knows some manners. “Sit, Down, Stay, Wait, and Leave It” are the basics every dog should know. It is your responsibility to employ these manners with your dog in the same way you would expect your children to behave in public. Hopefully your dog is a joy to all he meets and a bother to no one.
